The Return of the DeLorean

One of the most infamous sports cars of all time will soon take a trip back to the future. The DeLorean Motor Company has revealed that it’s reintroducing the iconic DMC-12, the legendary stainless steel, gull-winged coupe that captivated fans of cars and movies in the ‘80s. Only this time, it will be all-electric with a 300-mile driving range. And no, it won’t be equipped with a flux capacitor.

DeLorean will officially unveil the EV at the prestigious 2022 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, scheduled for August 21, in Monterey, California. Other than video images that premiered online during Super Bowl LVI, little else has been disclosed about the reimagined design or engine except that it will retain its most-famous element: gullwing doors.

One thing is certain, at least. The rebirthed DeLorean will not look like this.

John DeLorean founded the DeLorean Motor Company in 1975 and filed for bankruptcy a decade later. The only model ever produced, the DeLorean DMC-12, was a two-seater made in Northern Ireland. It found fame in the “Back to the Future” films. In 2021, the company was again licensed to manufacture cars. To be the first to know more or preorder, sign up for DeLorean‘s waiting list.
