Who are the Sons?

Sons of Speed was founded in 2015 by Paul Herrold, Brendan Appel, and Chris Balmes—three lifelong friends who all inherited their love of cars from their fathers. Paul Herrold’s father was a drag racer who drove drag-strip Hemi-powered cars for Dodge and still drives a monster Hemi Challenger today. Brendan Appel’s old man was an auto aficionado who would attend every car show he could find and would explain, in full detail, everything there was to know about classic cars to anyone who would listen. Chris Balmes' dad, meanwhile, was the driveway hotrodder who spent every weekend building up a ’56 Chevy pickup truck with a custom 327 Corvette engine.

Although the original trio has changed since their 2015 debut, the Sons of Speed still carry their fathers’ passion and excitement for cars. While Chris left the Sons in 2022, Alexander Herrold has since brought his video production and editing expertise to the company.

From hot laps at the racetrack to street drives on the local boulevard, the Sons of Speed instill a love of cars into everything they do. They are the car enthusiasts for car enthusiasts.
